According to the latest data released on July 29, 2014 by the United States JCR (Journal Citation Report) the impact factor for 2013 of Journal of Earth Science (JES) sponsored by China University of Geoscience (Wuhan) has risen to 0.546 from 0.395 in 2012 and 0.312 in 2011.
The impact factor is an important indicator that evaluates a journal’s international influence. The editorial office of JES has adopted a series of strategies to enhance the journal’s influence in recent years, such as establishing an international editorial board comprised of 32% international staff and recruiting more than 300 people as international referees. We have separated the publishing system from the academic review processes, and invited copy editors and Earth science experts to evaluate and revise manuscripts, giving full play to experts and scholars in the review process. We invited internationally renowned scholars Timothy M. Kusky and Robert E. Criss to act as deputy editors, monitoring the selection of research topics and the quality of manuscripts, and British geologist Roger Mason to serve as English Senior Editor to polish articles. We have collaborated with Springer Publishing Company http://www.springerpub.com/ to release an overseas electronic version of JES. All these measures are intended to improve periodical influence in the world.
