Investigation of Curie Point Depth in Sulu Ultrahigh-Pressure Metamorphic Belt, Eastern China

  • TheCuriepointdepthofcontinentalcrustcanreflecttheregionaltectonicpatternandgeothermalstructures.AnalysisofmagnetismisanefficientwaytoobtaintheCuriepointdepthonaregionalscale.ThisstudysystematicallyinvestigatedtheCuriepointdepthofSulu(苏鲁)ultrahighpressure(UHP)metamorphicbelt(33°40′Nto36°20′Nand118°Eto120°E,ca.60000km2),easternChinausingaeromagneticdata.TheresultsshowthattheCuriepointdepthoftheSuluregionvariesfrom18.5to27km.TheshallowestCuriepointdepth(ca.18.5km)islocatedinSubei(苏北)subsidence,wheretheestimatedtemperaturegradientvalueisabout31.35℃/km,whichiscomparablewiththemeasuredvalueof30℃/km.Inaddition,atwo-dimensionalnumericalsolutionoftheheatconductionwasusedtocalculatethetemperaturefieldtoadepthof30kmalongtheprofilefromTancheng(郯城)toLianshui(涟水)withalengthof139km.ThesteadystatemodelsolvedusingthefiniteelementmethodshowsthatthetemperaturearoundtheCuriepointdepthisabout585.36℃,whichisclosetotheCurietemperature(580℃)ofmagnetiteatatmosphericpressure.TheseresultsprovidenewinsightsintothetectonicandcontinuousthermalstructuresoftheSuluUHPmetamorphicbelt.
