Named Journal of China University of Geosciences, now renamed Journal of Earth Science since 2009, was started in 1990. JES is a bimonthly publication in English. Its counterpart, Earth Science, is in Chinese. The English journal was created to foster the international exchange of ideas and to promote teaching and research in English within
The scope of articles in JES includes stratigraphy, paleontology, petrology, mineralogy, structural geology, geochemistry, applied geophysics, earth resources sciences, environmental science and geotechnics, geomechanics, exploration and construction engineering, mathematical geology and remote-sensing techniques, computer sciences and information engineering, and other relevant new theories, methods and discoveries, as well as recent achievements in geosciences and timely reviews on selected subjects. Articles are welcome from both domestic and overseas scientists on related subjects.
According to citation analyses in China (citation rates and factors),JES is a key journal among geological and university journals. At present, JES is listed or abstracted in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E), Chemical Abstracts (CA), Abstracts Journal ( Russia ) (PЖ), Petroleum Abstract (PA), Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA), Zoological Record (ZR) and so on. JES has been awarded many times by the state government of China for the high academic quality of its publications.
