  • Lineamentextractionandanalysisisoneoftheroutineworkinmappingmediumandlargeareasusingremotesensingdata,mostofwhicharesatelliteimages.LandsatEnhancedThematicMapper(ETM)of945×1232pixelssubsceneacquiredon21March2000coveringthenorthwesternpartofYunnanProvincehasbeendigitallyprocessedusingERMappersoftware.Thisarticleaimstoproducelineamentdensitymapthatpredictsfavorablezonesforhydrothermalmineraloccurrencesandquantifyspatialassociationsbetweentheknownhydrothermalmineraldeposits.Intheprocessoflineamentextractionanumberofimageprocessingtechniqueswereapplied.TheextractedlineamentswereimportedintoMapGISsoftwareandasuitablegridof100m×100mwaschosen.TheKrigingmethodwasusedtocreatethelineamentdensitymapofthearea.Theresultsshowthatremotesensingdatacouldbeusefultoextractthelineamentsinthearea.Theselineamentsarecloselycorrelatedwiththefaultsobtainedthroughothergeologicalinvestigationmethods.Oncomparingwithfielddatathelineament-densitymapidentifiestwoimportanthighprospectivezones,wherelarge-scaledepositsarealreadyexisting.Inadditionthemaphighlightsunrecognizedtargetareasthatrequirefollowupinvestigation.
